Creation of Christmas: Crisis to Comfort

2023 Christmas Carol Teams

Read Text: Matthew 2

God’s creates everything beautifully and wonderfully. But not without crisis or trouble. Let’s unfold this chapter and learn together that how Christmas was created.

Verse 3 Herod is troubled by the birth of messiah. Herod was an Edomite, a non-Jew. He was appointed as a vessel king by Rome over Judea. Herod had annihilated senhedrin, murdered 300 court officers. And killed his wife Mariamne, mother Alexandria, elder brother Antipater and two sons Alexander and Aristobulus (Barclays).

Verse 4-6 John 1:42; Micah 5:2 high priest and scribes correctly got the message but failed to apply it to their own lives that Jesus would be the shepherd of Israel. Even Herod received a short bible study by them.

Verse 7-8 Herod stated worship but intended to kill.

Verse 9-12 Wise men were warned that they shouldn’t go to Herod. Their worship was manifested in their obedience.

Verse 15 Hosea 11:1 out of Egypt I called my Son.

Verse 16-18 Bruce: “ Killing matched with Herod’s career. Jer. 31:5

Verse 19-21 Return to Israel since crisis is over – Herod is dead. ( Jesus ministry was inlined with OT style not with Egyptian methods). Josephus informs that he died of worms and suffered genitalia gangrene.

Verse 22 Two guidance – Return and relocate.

Nazareth: Num 6:1-21, France: “humble & rejected Messiah” Isa. 11:1.
